INTERNATIONAL JUBILEE 15TH CONFERENCE, COMMEMORATING VLADIMIR VASILENKO “RUSSIAN STYLE: IN SEARCH OF THE NATIONAL IDENTITY”

We would like to invite you to participate in the International Jubilee 15th Conference commemorating Vladimir Vasilenko. It takes place in Moscow in the All-Russia Decorative Art Museum and is supported by the History of Motherland Foundation and the International Council of Museums.

In 2017 the museum holds out a contest for researches from all over the world. Authors of the selected papers will be granted tickets to Moscow and both printed and electronic publications of the conference materials (see Rules of the Contest). 

Vladimir Vasilenko (1905–1991) is an outstanding art-historian, professor of the Lomonosow State University, author of books, teacher of famous Russian specialists.

The conference, commemorating Vladimir Vasilenko is one of the most important events for researchers in the area of decorative and folk arts in Russia. In 1995–2012 the All-Russia Decorative Art Museum organized 14 conferences with participants from universities, museums, culture institutions, foundations and  independent experts. These meetings inspire new ideas, become an impulse for new discoveries, new educational and exhibition projects.

In 2017 the conference extends its geography and chronology: for the first time foreign researchers from all over the world are invited. Working languages are Russian and English.

This year a new section, dedicated to fashion and design of the 20-21st centuries is introduced. The section will operate in a new museum building – Fashion & Design Center, which will be opened November, 21, 2017, same day as the conference. The jubilee conference, commemorating Vladimir Vasilenko will be a high start of the new lecture hall of the Center, and all the participants are invited to join the opening.

In 2017 the conference is held out in a new format, extending the audience and access to the materials for specialists. Video of the conference will be available online, papers will be published at the site of the organizer – the All-Russia Decorative Art Museum and in eLIBRARY.RU attached to the Russian Science Citation Index, providing the access to papers of Russian and foreign specialists all over Russia. 

MAIN TOPICS OF THE CONFERENCE 

v    National traditions in decorative art and design;

v    Attribution and restoration of decorative and folk art objects;

v    Crafts: preservation and development;

v    Support, promotion, display of decorative art, fashion & design in the 21st century;

v    Decorative art of the Russian revolution (1917) times in the world culture. 

PARICIPATION

The All-Russia Decorative Art Museum invites to participate in the conference museum researchers and keepers, art historians, art critics, artists and craftsmen specializing in decorative art techniques, university representatives – professors and post-graduate students. Applications (see Attachment bellow) are to be sent to the conference curators (see Contacts bellow) before October, 09, 2017, 23.00 Moscow time.

Applications will be considered by the Council of Experts, selecting conference participants. The selected authors should send their papers (Word, under 16 000 characters) to the conference curators before November 20, 23.00 Moscow time. They will be published at the museum site and in eLIBRARY.RU, included in the Russian Science Citation Index.
