AFRICAN EXPLOSION: TRADITIONAL MOTIVES IN FASHION AND DESIGN FROM SOUTH AFRICA

The design exhibition  represents a diversity of traditional costumes and Most Beautiful Objects in South Africa (MBOISA). The traditional costumes created by different  cultural groups from all parts of the country, starts from monochrome San clothes and ends with a bright  multicolored sets by Ndebele people. All the clothes are used today – either for special occasions or for everyday life. 

The traditional sets are accompanied by contemporary clothes, based on traditional ornaments and materials. These include artworks by the leading contemporary designers from South Africa, who belong to the world of “Haute Couture”. 

The South African design consists also of real masterpieces. The objects-laureates of the annual design contest known as MBOISA. These objects are sourced from the best contemporary designers in the country annually. 

The show is a final point of the successful Cultural Seasons Russia – South Africa of 2016 – 2017.
